When was the last time you checked your lawn mower blade?

It's important to check the sharpness of your lawn mower blades regularly.

A dull mower blade doesn't cut the grass blades, it actually tears them.

This leaves the grass vulnerable to disease and damage from the sun.

Additionally, be sure to mow at a height of between two to four inches, and make it a point not to ever cut more than one-third of the grass blade off per mow. Keeping your grass at the proper height is crucial for water retention, grass seed germination, and soil health.

Get to know your blades. How often you mow and the size of your lawn will determine how often you will need to sharpen your blades. On average, it is good practice to sharpen your lawn mower blades at least every 4-6 weeks.

Instead of bothering with sharpening a badly nicked or very dull blade, it is best to have it professionally sharpened. Another option is to replace it with a new one of comparable size.
